Holla!

Alright, this is my shout out to all of you out there that love me or even if you just like me...a little. I am getting really nervous for the SLC 1/2 marathon that I am running this weekend!

This is my plea to all of you out there:

LEAVE ME A COMMENT WITH SOME WORDS OF ADVISE OR A FUNNY THOUGHT OR SOMETHING. I'LL TAKE THEM ALL WITH ME AND MAKE SURE I THINK ABOUT ALL OF YOU WHILE I AM RUNNING. EVEN IF YOU ARE JUST A BLOG STALKER AND WOULD LIKE TO TELL ME SOMETHING COOL...I PROMISE TO DEDICATE A FEW MINUTES OF MY RUN TO YOU!

Okay, I've gotten desperate haven't I? I'm just really nervous. This entire race is going to be a battle of WILL!

advice: be good to yourself! You've worked hard, think happy, positive thoughts and this will be an experience to remember, no matter what!
Funny thought: Well I hear through the grape vine that to make a good time in a triathlon you just pee as you go! If you feel good, just let loose, people will just think its butt sweat! HA, sick I know!

Your AWESOME ERIN, good luck and GODSPEED!! I be thinking about you on Saturday. Mind over matter girl...you got this!

So read this little devotional...

http://deseretbook.com/time-out/devotional?dev_id=1422

Then think of all the people that will be there cheering for YOU! That's the part I love best about running... all the people you don't even know just thrilled to be there cheering for you. It's contagious & you can spend the rest of the day cheering on the people around you... even just the people crossing the street.

I'm cheering for you! (And maybe we can do the Walt Disney Marathon in January '09 if this one isn't too bad)

I am SO cheering you on...and just remember...most people do not die running a marathon! (grin).

SUPER PROUD OF YOU!!

Don't pee your pants. Have you heard about those freaks at the race who aren't willing to take the time to pee? They just go... while they go... and I think it's worth the port-a-potty stop. Good luck, lady! You'll do AWESOME!

I just think it's great that you trained for it period! Brook ran the entire St. George marathon without even getting in 1 mile beforehand...ding dong! I was so worried about him. You'll do great!

LOL..There seems to be a lot of concern about you peeing your pants :-) No biggie...run in a skort and then just throw a cup of water on you at the next water stop :-) Most people would consider us freaks for enjoying this length of a run- let alone peeing ourselves while we do it..haha. You will do awesome!! Don't be nervous. The adrenaline & the atmosphere will help you out..or just think about the yummy food at the end. I like to do that around mile 11 :-) You are going to do great

I love, love, love this quote:

“Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing.

You have to make the mind run the body.

Never let the body tell the mind what to do.

The body will always give up.

It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night.

But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.”

George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian

Good luck! Can't wait to hear about your experience.

Just think of me! :) Oh, and maybe a couple of the pictures that you sent me once that no one else is ever allowed to see--you know what I'm talking about! Maybe you should keep them in your pocket for a quick pick-me-up!

Thanks for stopping by my blog & leaving a comment. I'm sure you'll do great in your race. As for advice, let's see...

1. I stick a tiny ziploc w/ baby wipes in my sports bra for the porta potty. I also stick my Clif bloks in a small ziplock & stick them in my bra, too. Easier access that way.

2. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Very important.

3. If you don't have Body Glide, GET SOME. Put it around your torso wherever your bra is against your skin, & also under the inside of your arms, between your thighs & ummm.... other tender nether regions (if you know what I mean) so you won't have to worry about chafing.

3. Slap a bunch of Vaseline on your feet before you put on your shoes & socks to prevent blisters.

4. Don't start out too fast. You'll have plenty of time to finish the race & you want to finish strong.

5. Look at the sights & people around you. Soak it all in.

6. Put your name on the front of your shirt. (I use iron-on letters from Michael's.) You have no idea how much it helps to hear hundreds of people yelling your name & cheering you on.

7. Put everything that you'll need for the race out the night before so you're not rushing to get it all together right before the race.

8. As soon as you get to the starting area, get in line for the porta potty. You may not have to go when you get in line, but I promise you, you'll probably have to by the time you get to the actual porta potty. Nerves are bitch & make you wanna pee.

9. SUNSCREEN!!! Don't forget your ears & use a chapstick w/ SPF for your lips, too.

Ummm... that's all I can think of for now. If I think of more, I'll let you know.

GOOD LUCK!! :)

Here's a funny thought. Going to the drive through without any cash. (I know you were just trying to get a free meal- for everyone in the family!) Totally kidding.

My advice is to enjoy the experience and take it easy!

You're so fabulous!

Erin, saw you on designer jeans blog and came over! I'm nervous too about Saturday and thought I would share with you what's helping me calm down. I love the scripture in Hebrews 12:1 where it says, "...with patience let us run the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." And Mosiah 4:27. Also, if you haven't already, read Elaine Dalton's talk she gave in the General YW Broadcast a couple of weeks ago. She talks about running the Boston Marathon. It's awesome! As I am laying in bed at night and can't sleep, I think of the song Be Still My Soul and that helps! Good luck! You'll do great!

Remember in Finding Nemo when Dori says "just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming," well just keep running my friend and sing that song in your head and I promise it will help. Good luck and if you run it next year then I'll run with you... I mean if you want me to. Alysia

You can do the 1/2 marathon like you can drink a WHOLE can of V-8, in one swig, slam the empty can on a conference table in the middle of a meeting, and loudly say, "Aaaahhhhhh!"

You are FEARLESS! (And, forever my idol.)

Watch out 1/2 marathon, you won't know what hit you!

Woot! Too bad I didn't train for this, we could have been buddies again. It's a lot further than the turkey day run. You're amazing! Have a fantabulous time!
