Jesus, Lord, At Thy Birth by Emily Frame of Ruffling Feathers

The most sure fire way I can think of to bring the focus back to Christ during the Holidays is through music. I have a few favorites and I basically just listen to them over and over, but sung or performed by different musicians. When I looked in my iTunes I found 24 different versions of "O Holy Night." I most definitely play favorites.

I have two small boys and I love to sing them hymns to sleep. Last Christmas-time I was rocking my 9 month old to bed having just found out, to my surprise, that I was pregnant with my second baby. I was singing another favorite and watched his heavy eyelids rise and fall like waves. As I started the last verse of the hymn tears streamed down my face.

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth."

That line "Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth." struck a chord in me. Christ was sent to this Earth with a purpose. Even as His mother rocked Him just like I rocked my own son, He was my Savior then as He is now. I know this to be true, and I am so grateful for this season where I can celebrate such a wonderful gift in my life!

Christmas music is some of my favorite to listen to and not just at Christmas! There is something special about having a little baby in the family at Christmastime, isn't there?

What a beautiful insight to that hymn. Two of my children were born in the days just following Christmas, and last year, our little angel joined us just before. The spirit of carrying and holding those little ones during that time of year, is so powerful and touching. I just love how it brings us closer to Christ!

I can totally second that. There is something about being a mother that draws me to Mary during this season and her role as the mother of the Savior. Christmas music is the best.
